<![CDATA[I'm overwhelmed... Social networking has become way too prevalent in our daily lives. Personally, I'm on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. Not to mention my blogs. And I know I'm not nearly as 'dialed in' as many are. Seriously, how many of us have been hit with status updates/tweets such as "in the cab on the way to the ________" fill in the blank. Then, shortly thereafter, we see "I'm here, will let U know how it goes." How newsworthy is this? I mean, if we'd heard that this person was in the cab, and swore it was a person they saw on America's Most Wanted the night before, that might be newsworthy. What about those updates that are simply too personal to talk about here? Yesterday, I left my TweetDeck on all day. I've got it setup to chirp when there's a new post or tweet. It chirped all day long. Some things I read I couldn't understand an kind of relevance. I was completely overloaded. You can bet the 'chirp' feature will no longer be on. When I receive friend requests, if I don't know them, or they aren't relevant to my work network or family network, I don't approve them. I don't feel I have to allow everyone to follow me on Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn. For instance, I received a note that a person was following me and when I checked it out I saw a woman with a BARE BOTTOM and very skimpy lingerie for a profile picture. And I WANT this to be associated with me? Not on your life! You are who your friends are. Why would I want to be associated with this type of adult (somewhat trashy) 'friend' whom I didn't know? I blocked it! People read who your friends are. Like it or not, opinions can be formed by potential clients when they read our walls or view our tweets. I confess, I've tweeted about inane things such as the weather.... But those who know me, know I'm addicted to weather so perhaps that's understandable. By the way, the weather today is expected to be around 57 degrees and mostly sunny. My bottom line, for my own peace of mind, I carefully monitor my LinkedIn, which is for business, my Facebook which is mostly for my family and friends, and my Twitter, well my Twitter is for complete voyeurism.... that guilty pleasure that I complain about but secretly love. I mean, what would I do without hearing about every single thing in everybody's lives? I might lose my mind if I don't find out if that person actually made it out of the cab to _____... Have a great day! KathyRitchie, thebestva]]>
